Theme: “First Impression”

The Show opened at the Seaport World Trade Center, March 14 – 18 2012.
Members from Ikenobo, Ohara, Sogetsu, Ichiyo and Koryu Schools made 33 arrangements during the two entry days to represent Ikebana International Boston Chapter. There were one large hanging bamboo arrangement made by Sogetsu School’s Joanne Caccavale, a floor arrangement using curly willow made by Ohara School’s Hiroko Matsuyama. President Joanne Caccavale also made a welcome arrangement using Yoshino and Kwansan cherry blossoms at the entrance of the Show in honor of the Sakura Centennial. 2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Tokyo to Washington DC.

This year we included a curriculum corner. Members of Ikenobo, Ohara and Sogetsu Schools each presented their basic arrangement as a way to educate the public. Information on how the arrangements were made were posted next to these arrangements. This special corner was very well received and appreciated.

Kaye Vosburgh and Tomoko Tanaka showcased the grace and beauty of ikebana to appreciative audiences in their demonstrations from the Sogetsu School during the Show.
Thirty eight members served as docents during the 5 days of the Show.

We were honored, once again, by a visit to the Show by Mr. Takeshi Hikihara, the Consul General of Japan in Boston.
