The 2018 Boston Flower & Garden Show was a resounding success.
Ikebana International was well represented during the 5-day Show with two separate entries.

Ikebono School’s President Teresa Silverman made a stunning Double Rikka Shofutai with Tree and Grass Material. Other Ikenobo members made Rikka Sofutai, Rikka Shimputai, Shoka Shofutai, Shoka Shimputai and Shoka Betsuden and Shoka Mae Soe. Almost all the catergories of Ikenobo’s School arrangements were represented.
Ohara School members made Moribana Free Style, Rising Form and an impressive Bunjin Style made by Russell Bowers using magnolia, orchid and Ti leaves.

All the Sogetsu members made Free Style arrangements. Kaye Vosburgh, I. I. President used the traditional flower cart and offered an array of flowers that spelled the arrival of Spring. Joanne Caccavale, Chair of the Flower Show, exhibited on two pedestals with unusual material from Florida, using Buddha’s Belly bamboo and bromeliads. Dora Lee, Sogetsu Director, and Elaine DiChiara showcased their creativity by using two pedestals and two Sogetsu metal containers with different varieties of anthuriums, dried allium and flowering quince and pennycress. Other members made exciting Free Style arrangements using wood, sweet gum, wooden sticks, dried palm, and sea fan.

The Curriculum Corner garnered some interesting comments. Members from the three schools made arrangements representing the basic forms from each school.

Tomoko Tanaka, of the Sogetsu School gave a demonstration to the public creating five exquisite arrangements. Her presentation was wonderfully informative and charmingly engaging.

A total of 32 members exhibited and 35 people served as docents during the 5-day event. We were honored by a visit from the Consul General of Japan, Mr. Rokuichiro Michii.
