Description
The October 18, 2005 meeting, “Stepping Stones in the Streams of I.I. Boston”, by past presidents, exemplifies what people can do when they pursue a dream.

The first two speakers were early presidents who had a vision, of introducing Ikebana to the Boston area, and through determination, along with that of others, accomplished that goal.

Natalie Wolf, 1964-1966, was at the very first world I.I. Conference in Tokyo. Wanting to share her knowledge of Ikebana with others at home, and not knowing containers would be available, had over 200 of them crated and shipped from Japan. All of these containers went, with the first meetings held in private homes.

Mabel-Maria Herweg, 1972-1974, had first become involved with Ikebana while her husband was stationed in Japan. Her intense interest followed her back to this country. One of her remembrances took place in Washington, DC, where she was in charge of a workshop led by Sofu Teshigahara. There were more than 200 women in attendance and he commented on each of their arrangements. She promoted Ikebana wherever she lived, becoming very active in the Boston Chapter.

Mabel Nevins, 1984-1986, is another leader that has continued with perseverance and enthusiasm of the earlier speakers. She was introduced to Ikebana by Fumiko at an MIT gathering. Since joining in 1978, she has given of herself freely in nearly every aspect of this chapter, from president to flower show chairman (as Carolyn stated, even with a broken arm!).

This meeting was an enthralling reminder of the rich Ikebana history in Boston.
